Camping in a tent

It's September and we went camping in July.  I'm fully aware of this fact, but yet I still plan on writing this as if it's the week after camp and am just filling you in on the weekend's happenings. Ok? Ok.

I love to camp.  I will admit..I like parts of camping more than others, but I do love to camp.  It's one of the family traditions I've had growing up for most of my life and I enjoy it.  Through the years, I have sooo many fun memories and am happy that this camping trip was no different...a definite memory maker.

Years back, I was dreaming about the kids being old enough to take camping.  Talking about how nice it'll be when they're both out of cribs and both are old enough to make camping "work" for us.  Oh, my dear Peggy...little did you know that you were dreaming of a camping trip as a solo parent down the pike.  For the whole week before we left for camping, I had about a thousand talks with myself-reminding myself there would be a lot of dirt, willing myself to find peace and calm without the aid of cocktails during the daylight hours, and pleading with my anxiety to stay at bay for this special weekend with the kiddos.  Before I go any further...I must tell you that the weekend was awesome!  It really reminded me that I. Can. Do. This.

The weather was AWESOME!  It was hot enough to want to swim in the lake, it really wasn't rainy, and generally wasn't too buggy or anything.  We ate the way we always eat..mom brought macaroons, there were peanuts in the shell, pistachios from Pistachio man, smores, pudgie pies, the whole nine yards.

This summer, I have been taking Fridays off to soak up time with L&C and it's been amazing.  It really helped us to get going on Friday morning early and make a pit stop at Bay Beach amusement park in Green Bay on the way up to the campsite.  The night before, the Taylor's asked me what we were doing the next day because they had plans to do Bay Beach.  We surprised each other with identical plans for the day and met up to enjoy the rides together!

Some key facts about camping this year:

- My cousin Janet came for the first time and it was AWESOME!!  She was sooo fun and just an awesome addition to our traditions and I pray she comes annually from now on!!

- Who needs a guy to help put up a tent?!  Mellie jumped right in to help me with the tent and we had that thing licked in NO TIME FLAT.  Way better time than in the past...just sayin!

- Peach sangria is delicious!

- The kids are old enough to remember the camp rules before you even bring them up and tell you on the car ride up all about them.

- Do not take Lily to potty in the woods in the middle of the night..she will pee on her jammies.  It's a fact.

- Maybe a daytime cocktail would be ok...I mean, we are camping...

- And Connor....my BABY...did this....

He loved it..I'm glad I let my guard down a little for this little guy to be a little thrill seeker, like I know he is!!
